Barkha Shukla Singh, is a former president of Delhi Mahila Congress and Ex-Chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women (DCW). She is a social worker, women rights activist. She has served as the former member of the legislative assembly. She has great passion for poetry and a well known author.
She started her career as a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) party and was elected as an MLA in the State Legislative assembly election, held in the year 2003. She has been elected from Rama Krishna Puram, Delhi. In a few years, she resigned the post and started serving as the Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women and she has created awareness about education and women rights. She has also stated that, ‘DCW should not encourage in any way and its main motive should be to provide justice for the victims, who approach the Commission’. In addition to this, she was also serving as the President of the Delhi Mahila Congress.
Recently, she has resigned from that post as well and stated that the INC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi, is not a stable leader and he has only been using the issue of Women Empowerment to gather votes, during election. She has also mentioned that, even she feels unsafe and thus she will not be able to empower women by being in the organisation. She is the third person to resign from the turbulent Congress Party.
