Mehbooba Mufti Sayeed, is an Indian Politician and currently she is serving as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, from April 4, 2016. Succeeding her Late father, she became the first woman and the 9th CM of Jammu and Kashmir, to hold the office. She represented ‘Anantnag’, in the 16th Lok Sabha and President of the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Party.
Her father was a well-known politician, who was in the Indian National Congress party. Later, in the year 1999, he came out from the Congress party and started his own party, Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Party and made her daughter the vice-president of the Party. She contested in the parliament elections, representing Srinagar, however, she lost to Omar Abdullah. However, she won the state legislative election, in the year 2002, defeating Rafi Ahmed Mir. She was elected as one of the member o f Lok Sabha, representing Anantnag, in the year 2004 and later in 2014.
Recently, in the beginning of 2016, when her father passed away, she assumed the office as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, on April, 2016. She has formed an alliance with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and this is the second time BJP and PDP are forming Government, due to alliance, in Jammu and Kashmir. She has also won the Assembly by-election, in June, 2016.
