Richard Shelby is an American Politician who belongs to the Republican Party. He was once a conservative Democrat, but he became a Republican during the reign of Bill Clinton. He is a renowned lawyer who is actively involved in the activities of the American and Alabama bar associations. Today he is better known as a Senator representing the interests of Alabama in the Senate. He assumed office as an American Senator in 1987.
Richard’s first election to the Senate was in a keenly contested election. It was a tight race, in which Richard contested on the platform of the Democratic Party. He however crossed carpet to the Republican Party in 1994; thereby affiliating with the majority party in congress. He was re-elected in 1998; ever since then, it has been a roller coaster ride for Shelby.
Senator Shelby was born on the May 6 1934 in Birmingham, Alabama. He was the son of Alice L. (née Skinner) and Ozie Houston Shelby. Shelby married Annette Shelby in the year 1960. Their union is blessed with two children. Their union is a perfect match by virtue of both belonging to the law profession. Together as a couple, they have won awards. Shelby has come a long way in the politics of the people of Alabama; he was a member of the think tank of President Reagan’s administration on defense issues.
He attended the University of Alabama from where he got an undergraduate degree in 1957. He was at Birmingham School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor in 1961. His LLB was gotten from the University of Alabama in 1963.
