Nikhila Vimal (Nikila) was born in Taliparamba, Kerala, India. Her parents are Pavithran Vimal (Father) and Kalamandalam Vimaladevi (mother). Her mother’s occupation is known as a professional dancer and her father has retired now from statistical department.
She has only one sister, who is older than her and is named Akhila Vimal. Her sister works as an educational researcher in the field of Theater arts at Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi. Besides being a famous actress, Nikhila Vimal is also a dancer. She is an expert in some of the Indian classical dance arts such as Bharata Natyam, Kuchipudi and Kerala Natanam. She even got the chance to make an appearance in some festivals. When it comes to her education, she graduated in 2016 from Sir Syed College (Taliparamba) with a bachelor degree in botanic.

Nikila’s first appearance on TV was for a Malayalam documentary related to Saint Alphonsa and was released on Shalom TV. It was in 2009, with only 15 years old, when she made her first acting debut in a film. The movie was called Bhagyadevatha and its filming took place around Kuttanad region in Kerala. The story was about a very ambitious man that only wants money and to have a well arranged marriage in order to receive the dowry, then some things happen that might change his mind. Nikila played the role of Jayaram’s sister.
In 2015, her first starred movie took place, the film was called Love 24×7 and was a Malayalam film as well. Her role was, Kabani Karthika, the female lead. The film was written and directed by Sreebala K Menon and Nikila’s Co-Star was the actor Dileep.
Her Tamil debut was in 2016 when she played the role of Latha in the movie Vetrivel. This a tragic romantic love story of arranged marriages. This film was written and directed by Vasantha Mani. Her character, Latha, was defined as one of the three heroines of the story. Her performance was very well received by both the audience and critics. Even though her participation was short and modest, she managed to impress the spectators with her performance. During 2016 Nikila also participated in another Tamil movie, Kidaari, where she played the lead character of Chemba. This film is considered as an action-mystery movie and was directed by Prasath Murugesan. Her co-star was Sasikumar who was also the producer. Again, for this film she had a very well response from the audience and critics due to her natural performance in the role. Nikila got a nomination for Best Debut Actress for in SIIMA Awards of 2017.
In 2017 she was offered to participate in the film Meda Meeda Abbayi which was her debut in the Telugu industry. This is a remake of the Malayalam film Oru Vadakkan Selfie (2015), a comedy-thriller film directed both, the new edition and original, by G. Prajith. She played Sindu, the lead female and neighbor of Srinu who is an Engineering student that wants to become a filmmaker (actor Allari Naresh).
2008 has been one of the busiest years for Nikila since she has participated in already six movies. The first one was for Telugu industry, a film called Gayatri. For this one she played the key role, the character of Gayatri. This film is about Dasari Sivaji, an actor that rescues a girl that he later finds out that is his lost daughter. The second movie of the year was for Malayalam Industry and was called Aravindante Athidhikal where she played Varada, an uptight Bharatanatyam student. This film is a drama, was directed by M. Mohanan and Nikila’s co-star is Vineeth Sreenivasan.
The third movie of 2018 was for Tamil industry. In the film Panjumittai she plays the lead role of Ranji, Appu’s wife. This is a fantasy comedy movie which was written and directed by S. P. Mohan. Her fourth movie of 2018 was Onbathu Kuzhi Sampath where she played Vasanthi. In addition, she played the role of a city based girl in her tamil film, Ranga.
Nikila went back to Malayalam industry for the movie Njan Prakashan where she played Salomi. This movie is again another comedy which was written by Sreenivasan and directed Sathyan Anthikad. The main role and co-star is Fahadh Faasil.
During next year, 2019, the Malayalam film Mera Naam Shaii will be released.
