Prince Harry was born on 15 September 1984. He is a member of the British Royal family and in the line succession to the British Royal family throne he is the sixth.
Prince Harry’s parents are Charles, Prince of Wales, and Diana, Princess of Wales. He was born in London (Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington) and is the second and youngest child of Charles and Diana. His older brother is Prince William.
Prince Harry’s name is Prince Henry Charles Albert David but his parents announced that he will be simply Harry for family and friends . The baptism had place on 21 December 1984 at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Robert Runcie.
The two brothers have been educated a little bit different than the previous royal children. Their mother, Diana, wanted for them to know also how it is the “ordinary life” so she went with them in normal places for kids of their ages, like McDonald’s or Disney World. Other things experienced with their mother were the visits to AIDS clinics and homeless shelters. Prince Harry started to accompany his parents on official visits at an early age – first tour with his parents being in Italy, in 1985.
At age of 3, Prince Harry began his education at Mrs Mynors Nursery School in west London. He is continuing his education at the Wetherby School, in 1989 . There, his older brother, Prince William, was already a student.
In 1992 year, Prince Harry is following again his brother, Prince William, and, he is starting the classes at the Ludgrove School. Ludgrove School is a boarding school from Berkshire. The college followed by Prince Harry was Eton College. It was his decision, overlooking family’s preference – Gordonstoun College – which Harry’s grandfather, father, two uncles, and two cousins had attended. On the other side, Diana’s father and brother attended Eton College. Prince Harry completed Eton College in June 2003. He achieved two A-Levels, excelling in art, in geography and sports. As sports, he preferred polo, cricket and rugby. During Eton schooling years, with his performances in sport, Prince Harry was House Captain of Games and also a member of the Combined Cadet Force.
After Prince Harry finished the school, he took a gap year travelling to Australia and Lesotho. In Australia, he worked in a cattle station and participated in the Young England vs Young Australia Polo Test match. He worked also in Lesotho, but this time with orphaned children and also made a documentary film named “The Forgotten Kingdom”.
After Australia and Lesotho trips, he dedicated a part of his life to military career. In May 2005 he enrolled in the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst as an Officer Cadet. In April 2006, once he completed his training course, he was promoted as a Second Lieutenant and he joined the Household Cavalry (Blues and Royals).
Between 2007 – 2008, Prince Harry had his first operational tour in Afghanistan as a Forward Air Controller and he served there for two months. After the tour has been finished and Prince Harry returned, he was promoted as Lieutenant.
In October 2008, Prince Harry decides to follow his older brother, father and uncle and starts learning to fly military helicopters. For Prince Harry, started a period of trainings and courses and he decided also to specialize in Apache attack helicopters.
On 07 May 2010, Prince Charles gave him his flying brevet (wings) during a ceremony at the Army Air Corps Base (AAC), Middle Wallop. On 14 April 2011, Prince Harry completed and passed Apache flying test for which he has been awarded with his Apache Flying Badge. Further this success, Prince Harry has been promoted to the captain rank.
Choosing Apache attack helicopters, Prince Harry’s intention was to have another military tour in Afghanistan. In order to achieve his goal, he started a gunship training for which he has been transferred to a US military base in California. Prince Harry completed and passed successfully all trainings and military exercises, so his next step was to go back in Afghanistan. It happened on 7 September 2012 and Prince Harry began a tour of four months as a co-pilot and gunner for an Apache helicopter. On 21 January 2013 Prince Harry returned from Afghanistan.
Prince Harry’s military career lasted ten years, and, in 2015, Kensington Palace announced that the Prince will leave the Army Forces holding the rank of Captain. Prince Harry left the operational services in June 2015, but he continued to be connected with Army Forces through Invictus Games and other activities of promoting the welfare of ones that served or still serving the country in Army Forces.
Prince Harry founded the Invictus Games in 2014. The Invictus Games is dedicated to all sick armed services personnel and veterans and its purpose is to mobilize all of them to take part in different sports like including wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball and indoor rowing.
Besides army activities, Prince Harry was and continue to be involved in a lot of charitable actions.
Prince Harry’s principal desire is to help the youngers through sport activities, as coacher in schools and communities, and, also training and preparing them for some professional qualifications. Prince Harry, alongside his brother and his sister-in-law, The Duke and The Duchess of Cambridge, founded “Coach Core” program. This program is based on sport and mentoring activities and directed specially to the young people which are facing long term unemployment and to the primary school children, who are targets in youth violence.
Prince Harry is supporting also the orphans or the children that are having HIV/AIDS . In 2006, he founded Sentebale, a charity organization in Lesotho. In 2016, he participated at a public HIV test at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital. Through this participation, Prince Harry underlined how easy is to be tested. He is interested also in Africa’s conservation of natural heritage. Other of his action was supporting the Queen by taking care of official engagements in the United Kingdom and official tours overseas. In his official tours, Prince Harry visited all seven continents.
In his personal life, Prince Harry had difficult periods, like his parent’s divorce or his mother death. His parents divorced in 1996 year and in the next year his mother died in a car crash in Paris. At that time, Prince Harry was only 12 years old and he accompanied his father, brother, paternal grandfather and maternal uncle at the funeral ceremony. The funeral ceremony took place from Kensington Palace to Westminster Abbey but after ceremony, the family traveled to Althrop where Diana’s body was laid to rest. He revealed in an interview that, after his mother death, he suffered of nightmares and it was a “chaos period” for him.
Prince Harry has been known as a “wild child” , the tabloids surprising him in embarrassing situations. From these episodes, we are remembering when he was 17 and he has been seen smoking cannabis. In a holiday in Las Vegas, in 2012, Prince Harry and an unknown woman were photographed naked in a Wynn Las Vegas hotel room. According to Prince Harry declarations, the photos were taken during a private party where he and his friends were playing a strip billiards game. On 21 August 2012, the photos were published in American media. Firstly, British media declined to publish the photographs, but, on 24 August 2012, THE SUN published them.
In the personal life, Prince Hary is married to Megan Markle. They began dating in 2016, in Toronto, where Megan was filming Suits show and Prince Harry was attending the Invictus Games. At the beginning of their love story, Megan and her family have been subject of harassment and racist and sexist attacks on social media. In order to prevent future situations of this type, Kensington Palace confirmed the relationship between Prince Harry and Megan Markle.
In September 2017, Prince Harry and Megan had their first public appearance. It happened at an official royal engagement, the opening ceremonies of the Invictus Games in Toronto.
In November 2017, Kensington Palace announced their engagement and all members of Royal family received with enthusiasm the news. Cleave & Company Ltd. made the engagement ring which have 3 diamonds, 2 of them being from his mother’s jewelry collection. The other diamond is from Bostwana, where the couple spent some time. According to Megan’s declaration the proposal came in a quiet evening at home :
when the Prince got down on one knee and proposed”.
After the engagement was announced, in the public space appeared a lot of critics and comments about the social significance that Megan Markle will become a “mixed-race royal” .
The wedding ceremony had place on 19 May 2018, at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. After the ceremony, Prince Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II offered him the title Duke of Sussex.
In the present, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are living at Nottingham Cottage in London, in the grounds of Kensington Palace and they are waiting their first child. Their child will be the seventh in line to the throne.
